Indian Regulations Governing Procedural Dermatology Training and Congress Participation

The following is a directive from the IADVL and applies to all international congresses being held in India.

Procedural and advanced dermatology are highly specialized branches of medicine that require formal postgraduate qualification, structured residency training, and supervised clinical expertise in dermatology.

Such competency cannot be considered equivalent to short-term exposure, observational participation, or workshop-based orientation for non-specialists. Medical practice and procedural training activities conducted within India are governed by applicable Indian laws, regulatory frameworks, ethical standards, and the directives of the National Medical Commission (NMC). Accordingly, all academic, clinical, and procedural activities conducted within Indian jurisdiction are subject to Indian regulatory principles, irrespective of the origin, affiliation, or international status of any organizing body.

The participation of non-dermatologists in procedural and advanced dermatology training programs raises important concerns related to:

  • Patient safety
  • Scope of professional practice
  • Ethical medical conduct
  • Preservation of specialty standards and integrity
  • Medico-legal and regulatory accountability

Any dilution of specialty-specific procedural training may inadvertently encourage unauthorized procedural practice and expose participants, organizers, and associated stakeholders to avoidable legal and regulatory consequences.

In accordance with prevailing Indian medical standards and regulatory expectations, eligibility for participation in procedural and advanced dermatology training programs conducted in India should therefore be restricted to qualified dermatologists holding recognized dermatology qualifications. Attendance at procedural workshops, live demonstrations, hands-on training sessions, and advanced dermatologic procedure courses will therefore be limited to registered medical practitioners with recognized postgraduate qualifications in dermatology, as per applicable Indian regulations.
